Yuba Sutter Youth Symphony
The Yuba Sutter Youth Symphony (YSYS) is made up of students from the greater Yuba-Sutter Area up to age 20. One of the goals of this organization is to complement, not replace, our area's school music programs. Thus, all students participating in this group must also be a member of their school music group, unless such a group does not exist. Special circumstances will be evaluated by the YSYS board.
YSYS students will be performing music for full symphony orchestra (including winds, brass, and percussion) that will be at a challenging level for all students. In order to make sure that students are at an appropriate ability level for this symphony, we will be holding auditions. The Youth Symphony will begin rehearsals on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:45 p.m. at River Valley High School starting in September. The season will last through mid-May. Attendance plays a key role in this organization. Thus, it is very important that both parents and students make a commitment to all rehearsals and performances, as the success of the symphony depends on practicing together as a whole group.
In addition, all students will be asked to pay a tuition fee to help cover the costs of running this symphony. Tuition for the year is $150. If the entire fee is paid by Sept. 7, the amount will be discounted to $130. The fee may also be paid in two installments of $75 each, due on or before Sept.7, and Jan. 11. Some partial financial aid is available.
We hope that you will consider joining us. The YSYS will surely provide new and exciting musical experiences and friendships for those students involved. Auditions will be held on Sat. August 28. You will be informed whether or not you passed the audition as soon as possible afterward.
There will be a mandatory meeting for all students, both new and returning, and at least one parent or guardian on Tues. Aug. 31 at 7:00 in the band room of River Valley High School. At that time we will go over all policies and schedules. Applications for financial aid will also be discussed and distributed.
